Miss Welch reveals art deco-inspired stage set and backing singers

Florence And The Machine have announced a 9-date UK tour starting next March in support of their second record Ceremonials.

The album went straight in at number one in the UK album chart when it was released last month.

The tour kicks off in Bournemouth on 4 March and marks their first major UK tour since May 2010.

The feeling in the Florence camp at the moment is of excitement, she said: "It feels like we're in a waiting pen and everyone's getting really anxious to get out and play."

The Horrors and Spector are confirmed as the support acts except for one date when Theme Park will be appearing.

Speaking to us about what we can expect from the upcoming tour, she explained: "We've been inspired by Klimt and Erte, these art deco artists and we were inspired by them for the album art-work so it made sense to try and design a stage set around that."

There are some other additions to their live show. Florence says they've enlisted some more people to recreate the big sound of the record.

"We've got backing singers now which is so exciting because it's my dream to have backing singers," she explained. "As someone who is so choral obsessed it's quite strange that I've never had backing singers before.

"There's so many synths on the album we needed to beef up the sound of the key section, so we've got Rusty who's an accomplished organ, piano and synth player. It's still the same set up with the band that I've been touring with for the past two years. When we all started no one had been in a band before. I don't think you could have called us professional musicians, but I feel maybe we're heading slightly more in that direction."
