Introduction and events chosen

I will be using this blog to keep track of the marketing communications of two events. I will be looking at the marketing and promotion of these events, and comparing how the two different events techniques may differ in order to reach their target audience.

The two events which i have chosen to follow is the London Fashion Week and the artist tour of Florence and the Machine. These events are both very different to each other and therefore i think it will be interesting to see how each event approaches it's marketing and promotion.

The London Fashion Week will be held on the 17th to the 22nd of February 2012. Since 2009 Somerset House (Strand, London) has played host to the London Fashion Week and will continue to do so for the 2012 Autumn/Winter collection. Many high profile designers will get their chance to have their designs showcased throughout these 5 days. These designers include; Jasper Conran, Alexander McQueen, Mulberry, Paul Smith and Vivienne Westwood's Red Label.
During the London Fashion Week both women's and men's wear will be showcased. Women's wear will run from the 17th to the 21st of February, and Men's wear run on 22nd of February 2012. Somerset house is seen to be the ideal venue for many fashion, music, art and film events.
I have chosen to look at the London Fashion Week as i think it will be interesting to look at the marketing of an event of this scale, also i wish to see if the promotion of this event is successful, and how a high profile event like this benefits from marketing and promotion.
I am also going to track the marketing of  one of Florence and the Machine tour dates which will be held on the13th of March 2012. This event will be held in the NEC's (National Exhibition Centre) LG arena, Birmingham. Tickets to this event will be sold at £29.50 plus fees and will start at 7.30PM. The Florence and the Machine tour will be supporting her second album 'Ceremonials' and this tour will be one of the first chances fans will have to see 'Ceremonials' performed live. Florence and the Machine can be described as a mixture of genres such as indie, soul and rock. My reason for choosing this event is that I am a fan of Florence and the Machine and I have also been to the LG arena many times before, therefore a combination of the two made me interested to see how the event is promoted by the NEC and whether the tour is promoted at all be Florence herself.
