Early and alternate versions from Jay Reatard and AlicjaTrout’s epic garage/electro-punk band Lost Sounds, with tracks off of theiralbums Black Wave, Rats Brains & Microchips, andthe final Lost Sounds LP, as well as songs that never made itto proper albums. Captivating kitchen recordings, acoustic demos, andfully-realized studio tracks.
Covers of garage obscurities like “I Cannot Lie” andoriginals like “No Count” betray the garage rock sensibilities that Jay wasstill shedding during the earlier years of the band. Later recordings show theeffects of electro-punk and death metal influences creeping into their sound.
A great collection from a great band and a couple of great songwriters, mastersof tension without release.
These songs will appeal to everyone from garage and punk fanatics to Numanoidsand metal-heads.
- “Frankenstein Twist” (1999)– From our first group of kitchenrecordings, everything saturated with the blue echo pedal that’s on all ourpre-digital recordings. Brown and orange kitchen, bright highway-safety orangecounter tops with persimmon and eggplant wallpaper. Slaughtering of a wonderfulCrystals song.
"Genetic Engineer" (2004) – This song never came outright when we recorded it for our s/t album so it remained a demo. I think itreally reflects the sentiments that led to the demise of the band.
