Florence and The Machine : Ceremonials Tour 2012

To contact us Click HERE

Last night my friend's and I embarked on a spectacular journey fueled with vodka and Tesco 'speciale beer'. That journey of course, was to witness the glorious Florence Welch captivate the audience with her every word. And boy, did she perform. It was the third time that I have seen Florence live and after watching her recent televised performances I am going to be frank, I was pretty nervous. But as always she shunned any niggles away from her amazing voice and sang to the highest quality possible!
Her cloak was magnificent, (Alex Noble designed it), and her catsuit/playsuit was a glittery piece of magical cloth which fit her like a 'glove'. (Sorry to be so... cliche). Overall it was the best concert I have been too which could be to do with the amount of alochol I consumed but it could also be to do with the emotional attachment I have gained to the songs. Absoloute perfection. Florence and her machine's have made me realise why I keep coming back for more and why many of us continue to purchase her album's, constant bliss, constant perfection, constant Flo.

International Tour Dates Kick Off September 10
in Support of New Album, Theatre is Evil, Out September 11
General Public Tickets Go on Sale Friday, July 13.

Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra unleashed the new “Want It Back”music video today, offering another taste from her new album, Theatreis Evil, to be released on Palmer’s own 8ft. records on September 11.The video is a stop-motion animated video created with Australian director JimBatt, and shot in Melbourne when Palmer and her band were recording the newalbum this past spring. The video continues a strong visual art theme, incorporating her naked body as a canvas for hand-painted lyrics to unfoldacross the screen.

Body politics, and body pride, have always been a strong theme for Amanda: “I'mso comfortable being naked at this point that I almost forget… I'm also proudthat that video has nudity, but it isn’t sexual or erotic.... it's using thebody as a raw canvas, which I love.” Although a “censored version” of the videowill be made available online, Palmer hopes the video will be widely seen init’s original form, despite some nudity.

Palmer is excited to release such a stunning piece of art for her first video."I've never made a video with such a small, concentrated art-crew, and itwas magic,” she notes. “For three days straight it was just me, Jim, thetattoo-graffiti artist Curran James, and a painstaking process as we createdthe video, shot by shot by shot.” Jim Batt explains, “"Hand crafting afilm frame-by-frame is always an intense experience, even more so when you'reusing someone's body as a canvas, but there's something magical aboutstopmotion that you can't capture any other way. I'm still impressed that wemanaged to get Amanda to sit still for that long, she was a champion!"

“Jim Batt is a visionary film artist, and I hope this video shines some lighton the art-talent that's hiding out in Melbourne,” says Palmer. “That city isharboring some of the best creative minds in the world."

"The Ugly Club creates music that carries elements of psych rock, lo-fi and garage- rock, with an added, strong textural quality." The Deli Magazine
New Jersey's psychedelic indie-rock quintet, The Ugly Club, has been handpicked by Flavorpill and Adrian Grenier to compete in Flavorpill's Wreckroom Records contest. The band with the most votes will be awarded a recording session in Adrian Grenier's NYC Studio, Wreckroom Records. You can vote here: http://on.fb.me/Na6TJt. Fearlessly honest and unwaveringly persistent, The Ugly Club, has been operating for nearly two years with such a force that the band has become impossible to ignore. Formed in 2009, The Ugly Club consists of Ryan Egan (vocals/guitar), Joseph Stasio (vocals/guitar), Taylor Mandel (keyboard/piano/ trumpet/ melodica), Rick Sue-Poi (bass) and Ryan McNulty (percussion).  Following the success of their debut EP, Visions of Tall Girl, The Ugly Club's fans have been hungry for more of their unique, infectious sound. Even hungrier to deliver, The Ugly Club began a Kickstarter campaign to help fund a full-length album. The band's devotion to their fans and vice versa became evident when the campaign raised more than double its goal, making the release of You Belong To The Minutes a celebration for the band and fans alike.
Since the humble beginnings of The Ugly Club in various small towns throughout central New Jersey, the band has had high aspirations and an unfaltering vision of their career path.  Two self-released/produced EPs deep, the band has independently toured the east coast playing notable venues and festivals like SXSW in Austin, TX and has received praise from publications like The Music Slut, Absolutepunk.net, Forbes.comThe Deli Magzine & countless others.  "IfWhite Arrows were the hardest working 'official' SXSW band, The Ugly Club was the hardest working 'unofficial' band," says Mike Henneberger ofStages & Stereotype.com, regarding the bands' tireless efforts busking, promoting and playing gigs during music week.  With the help of both DIY marketing and free-download distribution, the bands' previous release, Visions of Tall Girl EP has surpassed 100k downloads worldwide.

Review: Eddie C. Campbell - Spider Eating Preacher

Eddie C.Campbell - Spider Eating Preacher (Delmark)In a blues world too oftencharacterised by its innate predictability, there are few artists as assuredlyindividual as Eddie C. Campbell. Over half a century since his performing debutand three years on from his first release for the legendary Delmark label theunique laconic grooves that comprise his self-styled ‘West Coast Funk’ arealive and well on ‘Spider Eatin Preacher’.
Trading reverb-drenched licks withguest guitar legend Lurrie Bell, Campbell has lost none of his talent formesmerising with both his instrument and voice; and, ably supported by a fullcast of players that provide both a steady rhythm and more than a few engagingdiversions, has turned in a set of fifteen songs that cuts no slack, and iscompelling from start to finish. ‘Call My Mama’ and Jimmie Lee Robinson’shaunting ‘All My Life’ somehow manage to stand out from an otherwise whollysubstantial collection.www.delmark.comNeil B.

The winner heldoff stiff competition from three other shortlisted venues - the new HepworthWakefield in West Yorkshire, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery inEdinburgh, and Watts Gallery, near Guildford in Surrey.
The Exetermuseum's recent redevelopment created new exhibition spaces, repaired thebuilding and created a space for school parties and other groups.
But the revampcost 60% more than anticipated and was hit by delays.
The museum'svast collection is divided into antiquities, ethnography, natural history, decorative and fine arts.
'Makinghistory'
It focuses onboth local and world history. Among its items are paintings by Gainsborough andReynolds, while the zoology section includes more than 120,000 butterflies andmoths, 8,500 birds and 1,200 mammals.

Review: Li'l Ronnie and the Grand Dukes - Gotta Strange Feeling

To contact us Click HERE

Li'lRonnie and the Grand Dukes - Gotta Strange Feeling (Eller Soul Records)Harmonica-driven opener ‘Can’t BuyMy Love’ makes a favourable introduction to the label debut from thisfive-piece Mississippi roots band. There’s always room for anotherSouthern-styled outfit that can keep it down and dirty, and when they hit thespot on Owens/Applerouth (vocals/guitar respectively) compositions such as ‘LoveNever Dies’, ‘I Won’t Take it Anymore’ and 50’s Chicago blues homage ‘Can’tPlease Your Wife’, the Grand Dukes show bags of promise. Elsewhere the materialfalls somewhat short (the Little Feat-lite ‘Cold Hard Cash’ and the lesssubstantial ‘Screaming and Crying’ for example) and there’s a suspicion thattunes that may play perfectly well in the white heat of a packed bar aren’treally fully formed enough just yet to make the grade on record; and to behonest the faithful rendition of ‘C’est La Vie’ wasn’t really necessary – it’sbeen pretty well done to death already.www.ellersoulrecords.comNeil B.

A book ofEdward Lear's limericks that comedian Ronnie Barker changed to make funnier hassold for £3,600 at auction.
The Two Ronnies star wrote his own versions of thepoems alongside Lear's in The Book of Nonsense, first published in 1846.
Dominic Winter Auctioneers said it had been bought bya private buyer at the sale in South Cerney, Gloucestershire.
The book, which is signed and dated November 2001,had been estimated to make about £1,500.
Ronnie Barker, who died in 2005 aged 76, wasapparently disappointed by the poet's use of the same word at the end of thefirst and last lines, so made his own additions.
Among them was an introductory limerick he wrote, calling the verses "boring and drear".
It reads "There was an old fossil named Lear,Who's verses were boring and drear. His last lines were worst - just the sameas the first! So I've tried to improve on them here."
The auctioneer's website described the book as,"an extraordinary and unique item, associating two British masters ofcomic language and wordplay."
The buyer was a private collector from Scotland, the auctioneersaid.
At the same sale a 1924 first edition of a collectionof short stories by Agatha Christie, Poirot Investigates, was sold for £34,000.
It had been estimated to make £3,000 - £5,000.
Auctioneer Chris Albury said: "We knew it was avery, very rare dust jacket featuring a picture of Poirot, and we couldn't findan example of the book with a jacket ever having come up at auction before.
"But it proved to be even rarer than that, andmost of the specialists had never even seen one in decades of dealing."

Review: Miscomunicado - The Golden Teacher

To contact us Click HERE

Miscomunicado- The Golden Teacher (Independent)There’s something wonderfully refreshing aboutMiscomunicado’s approach to their chosen craft. The Fort Collins quintet isobviously enamoured with various jam bands from various eras, but they filtertheir influences through a primal mesh of early ‘70s proto-punk, art schoolavant-post-punk and Hawkwind-esque space-rock, and the results are altogetherenthralling, and quite different. Whether they’re knowingly throwing theseinfluences into the musical pot, or the ensuing outcome is a matter of pure chance,I’ve no idea, but there’s so much here to be enjoyed and admired whatever the creativeprocess.
“The Golden Teacher” is their second long player andfollows promptly on the heals of 2011’s “L’Ocean”, though it certainly doesn’tfeel rushed. Indeed, it seems a more rounded recording than its predecessor, and certainly more inclined to explore different sounds. Opener “On The Bus”hits a loose, infectious groove early on, and comes off like a heady mix of Pavementand Phish. Next, “Golden Forest”, begins briskly like a late ‘70s new waver, before settling into something that Bloc Party fans might want to seek out andcozy up to. For those who enjoy the more experimental aspects of psychedelicrock, be sure to check out “ICANMOODMUSIC pt.3”. It’s combination of mumbledspoken word passages, demented chuckles and relentless layers of strum anddrone isn’t a moment too long at nearly ten minutes.www.facebook.com/miscomunicadoRob F.

Pretty Lights announce "The Illumination Tour"

Pretty Lights will be previewing material from the forthcoming album on the “The Illumination Tour,” which launches with two sold-out hometown shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on August 17 and 18. Tickets go on sale today for the remaining shows on the first leg of the headline run (August 23 – October 6) with the exception of Mobile, AL (on sale July 2) and San Francisco, CA (on sale July 13).

“The Illumination Tour” will include stops at the legendary Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles (9/15), Boston’s TD Garden (10/31) and Detroit’s Compuware Arena, where the outing wraps up on November 17. Pretty Lights will also be playing numerous festivals, including Electric Zoo in New York City on August 31, North Coast in Chicago on September 2 and CounterPoint in Atlanta on September 29. The tour will feature a wide range of support acts including DJ Shadow, 12th Planet, araabMUZIK, Marty Party, Zion I, Big Gigantic, Lotus, and more plus PLM artists, Paul Basic and SuperVision. See below for full itinerary and support acts.

“I've been hard at work on a new album for more than a year. I've completely switched up my process of producing and composing. It is being created from all originally composed samples off of self made vinyl and all analog modular synthesis,” says Derek Vincent Smith, the innovative electronic music producer behind Pretty Lights. “It’s prolific, conceptual, consistent, yet extremely diverse, and a real substantial piece of music you can sink your teeth into. The Illumination Tour will be the place to hear (and see) a lot of what this upcoming PL release has in store."

“Smith, the mastermind behind the increasingly popular electronic music project Pretty Lights, made good on his promise to create a massive multi-sensory concert experience,” said The Oklahoman in a live review. “[He] opened his set commandingly with his pulsing, moody single ‘I Know the Truth,’ as the lights winked on in the vast LED cityscape behind him. The atmospheric urgency of the dubstep-leaning track whipped the already excitable crowd into a full frenzy.”

The Lincoln Journal Star called Pretty Lights’ show “the most impressive contemporary dance party Lincoln has seen, perhaps, ever,” noting: “Smith's a master at mixes, blending vintage funk, soul and rock sound with synthesized noise and hip-hop beat, and his elaborate show allows him and a lighting engineer to manipulate the lights to add to the mood and dynamic.”

Pretty Lights has given away more than 2.8 million free album downloads to date. For more information on Pretty Lights and Pretty Lights Music (PLM) – the record label founded by Derek Vincent Smith – visit www.prettylightsmusic.com, where all PLM music can be downloaded for free.
