Public Relations

To contact us Click HERE
Public relations is a part of marketing and communication strategies that craft an organisation's message, and communicates it to the public, including; Customers, investors, employees, suppliers, distributors, media/journalists, social media networks, the government and the public. These messages can now be communicated in various ways; One to one, one to many, or many to many. Across different forms of media; owned media, third party media and/or social media.
Basically, Public relations is the managing of communication between organisations and its public. The objective of public relations is not only to change the perception of an event from poor to good, but to also change it from good to better.
Public relations can be used for a number of business activities:
  • Customer retention - using PR activities such as; events, launches and media liaisons to support marketing to retain custom, grow sales, and increase market share.
  • Investment - using PR activities such as corporate hospitality to encourage new customers and further investment via the development of investor relations.
  • Bargaining status - using PR to build brands in order to achieve better relationships with suppliers and customers.
  • Staff relations - using PR to portray a healthy organisation in order to attract and maintain a desired quality of staff
  • Business development - initiating and building new business through PR activity such as events, corporate hospitality, and business to business communications in order to develop business from new or existing customers.
-Masterman (2006)
All these uses of PR work to improve the way an event is viewed by the public, other businesses.
Florence and the MachineThe Public relations of the Florence and the Machine tour, isn't just about promoting the tour or the album, its about promoting Florence as a person. There is information being released daily, about the Florence and the Machine tour through the Internet and through social media. However, Florence is going further than this by doing regular appearances on TV shows and articles in magazine to show her fan more about herself, rather than just about her music. Florence has made many recent television appearance such as; appearing on the culture show, and performing on the Brit awards which has gain her a lot of positive publicity and has made Florence a house hold name. Florence has also been on the radio recently, on Dermot O'Leary's Saturday session on BBC radio 2 and on BBC radio 1 discussing her performance and Brit award success with Fearne Cotton. However, this table (below) i found on mintel shows that there is a decline in the amount of people who are listening to the radio. Therefore, you have to think, is this the best and most effective way for Florence to publicise herself?  Florence has also recently launched her new facebook page and appeared in popular music magazine, Q magazine. Often public relations can be more effective than advertising as people feel that they are getting to know the person behind the music, rather than just going to a concert of an artist whose music they enjoy. Florence has done a lot of public relation related stuff lately and i believe this is because she has been wanting to promote herself, her tour and her album and this is the most effective way for her to do it.
Here is a video of Florence's performance at the Brit awards 2012.
London Fashion Week
The London Fashion Week's public relations may be different to that of most other events, as most of the time, rather than the British Fashion Council (BFC) promoting the event as a whole, it is often that then event is showed through the designers. You can view some of the articles about the London Fashion Week if you go onto their website and click on the 'press' button. While the designers are using public relations to boost the knowledge of their brands before the Fashion Week, they are also boosting the knowledge of the London Fashion Week itself. Because the London Fashion Week is an event which would be difficult to promote alone, it is good that the event will be linked to the designers who's designs are showcased at the event. There has been many articles in the papers about the various designers who will be attending the London Fashion week. There has also be articles done about  models being banned from using sunbeds, this article was released just before the London Fashion Week and was related to the event and the London Fashion Week was mentioned in the article.
Just before the Fashion week was to begin (February 15th 2012) there was an article in the London evening standard, which discussed actresses such as Scarlett Johansson are expected to see the first ever shows by Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and Moschino's cheap and chic line, this article also discussed the impact in which the London Fashion Week has on the economy.
During the London Fashion Week the British Council, and BFC has arranged for the launch of the international fashion showcase to take place. Over 80 emerging designers will be given the chance to to showcase their work. The public, together with international press and buyers will have the opportunity to explore the collections of some of the most innovative, emerging fashion designers from around the world.
Through the designers publicity the London Fashion Week is gaining awareness.
So all in all, the London Fashion Week uses launches and their designers as there public relations, i would imagine that this works for them as many fashion magazines will want to discuss the designers and because the event is a well known one.

I think that Florence and the Machine have a better method of Public relations than the London Fashion Week. This is because Florence's public relations are more direct to her tour. Whereas, the London Fashion Week's public relations are more about the designers or the launch, even though the event would be discussed, it does not allow the reader to get to know about the event.

CRYSTAL PALACE GARDEN PARTY
2 Day Festival in the Crystal Palace Park BowlSaturday 23 June and Sunday 24 June 2012
CANCELLED due to Health & Safety concerns
It is with great disappointment toannounce that the Crystal Palace Garden Party will not now be able to go ahead
When it was realised that a 1.5 tonscissor lift truck must come on to the stage to erect the sails and riggingsome cursory tests were made to the structure. There was some obvious weatherwear to the stage and the temporary boards that were put down some time ago ...However, on closer examination it seemed there might be a more serious problem.A surveyor was called and rotten joists checked etc it was discovered thedelapidation was much worse than was at first thought. It couldn’t beguaranteed to be fixed in the time available so it was felt the safest thing todo all round was to cancel the event and hopefully try again next year.
Sadly this means that the eventscheduled to feature the likes of Rick Wakeman, Hawkwind, Barclay JamesHarvest, Focus, The Strawbs and Curved Air on Saturday 23 June and The LondonGala Symphony Orchestra on Sunday 24 June will now not take place.
Full refunds are of course availableto all those who have brought tickets and the organisers, who are currentlylooking at alternatives for a future event, would like to express theirsolidarity with those who were looking forward to the event.

A message from Sid Griffin about Gene Clark gig this very Saturday night‏

To contact us Click HERE

Hello to each of you,

Ok, Gene Clark isn't playing a gig this Saturday night June 2 but I am and itis my first electric guitar with drums gig in over three years.

This Saturday night about 9:30 I will take the small stage at The Betsey Trotwoodpub in Clerkenwell, central London, to perform eight Gene Clark songs backed bythe fabulous Dreaming Spires. Gene Clark should need no introduction to thoseof you on this mailing list. The Dreaming Spires are, along with the See See,the best of the new, young, hip psychedelic bands coming out of Britain today.

It starts 8pm with other groovy acts appearing and is only a fiver. It is a lotbetter than praising the Royal Family for being rich and famous and not much else.I sincerely hope many of you will attend.

The Coal Porters are currently mixing the new album, Find The One, with Ed Stasiummanning the desk. It will be out in Sept and there will be a full tour then.Hence our having a relatively quiet summer save for a few festivals and severalprivate parties.

BBC World Service might have me on their Doc Watson piece and if they do I willlet each of you know straight away. Doc will be missed. You might say he wasthe Gene Clark of the acoustic guitar.

I hope this finds each of you safe and warm and smiling.

Best always,

Sid Griffin.

KAMELOT Return to SPV, New Album in September!

To contact us Click HERE

- New Vocalist to be Announced End of June -

It's a perfect coup: KAMELOT, one of the most charismatic and distinguished metal bands worldwide have returned to the Steamhammer/SPV fold for a worldwide deal excluding Japan. The group surrounding guitarist and composer Thomas Youngblood is currently working on the drum recordings with renowned sound engineer Jim Morris at the Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, before work on the album is due to be completed at Wolfsburg's Gate studios under the direction of producer Sascha Paeth (Edguy, Avantasia, Rhapsody). The title ofKAMELOT's current release will be announced at the end of June, together with the name of their new vocalist. However, according to Youngblood, one thing is certain: ""Our fans can really look forward to our new record, because it represents KAMELOT in every way!"
Youngblood on the style and content of the concept album: "The new songs sound more symphonic and melodic than our last two studio recordings. The material brings to mind albums such as Karma (2001) and The Black Halo (2005). In addition, this will be the best production that KAMELOT have ever delivered. Because while other acts tend to opt for low-budget productions due to the difficult market situation, we have gone the opposite way: the new album will be a real statement, in terms of our compositions as well as in terms of our sound."
The eagerly awaited album has been scheduled for release on September 24, 2012 in Europe, September 21st in Germany and September 25th in North America. KAMELOT are set to play a number of festivals (among them Wacken Open Air and Bang Your Head)as early as July and August before embarking on a US tour alongside Nightwish inSeptember/October and a major headliner tour of Europe in November 2012.
"We are more than proud to welcome back one of the best metal bands around here at SPV. From 2005 to 2009 we had already had the pleasure of working very successfully with Thomas Youngblood & Co, which we will continue and increase with the new masterpiece coming in September 2012" says Olly Hahn (A&R SPV/Steamhammer). Thomas Youngblood is obviously happy with the resumption of this extremely successful cooperation: "Our new album marks another step and a new chapter for KAMELOT and our amazing fans! We are very pleased to be working again with the entire SPV team on this very exciting release." Andreas Rennmann of Brinkmann & Partner adds: "I´m absolutely proud to welcome KAMELOT back to SPV. We all believe in the fantastic history of KAMELOT and are absolutely sure that this upcoming release will be one of the most successful albums!"

Downtread Returns With "Stand Your Ground"

To contact us Click HERE

Rock quintet Downtread have returned with Stand YourGround, a follow-up release to the band's 2010 debut album 144. Their aim, to continue building a fan base drawn to the music they arerecording, and to simply provoke a response.  Vocalist  / GuitaristBrett Petrusek shares, "We fit in our own weird, restless littlespot.  We want to provoke an honest response, whatever that is.  Ifsomeone gets pissed or happy or bummed out – I don’t care, as long as the musicmakes you feel something.  That makes the whole journeyworthwhile.”
On the latest leg of their ongoing journey, the band willcontinue to build an audience through appearances affording Downtread a higherprofile than the vast majority of their contemporaries in the development phaseof a career.  In mixing prime support appearances alongside headlinedates, they will play in front of tens of thousands.  Since forming in2007, and making their first appearance at the Dallas International Guitar Festival, Downtread has appeared on stages that cumulatively placed the band infront of over a million rock fans.  They made the pilgrimage to perform atSturgis and Rocklahoma, while also taking the stage in front of CollectiveSoul, Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Cheap Trick, Ratt, Bret Michaels, and manyothers.  They relish the opportunity to connect with fans on the road, andthose travels have been the primary driver in a career that now boasts a largelegion of fans.
The unintentionally provocative title of their second album, StandYour Ground, was coined long before headlines ran rampant in newsmedia.  Days before the album was manufactured, the tragic shooting inFlorida pressed the phrase in to the public's consciousness.  Petrusekoffers, "It was pretty weird – purely coincidental.  We finishedrecording the album, chose the title song and completed the artwork.  Andthen all of a sudden the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law in Florida turns into a majortopic of debate, with people screaming about it on TV.  For us, the phraseisn’t some kind of agro challenge or an excuse to whip out a pistol.  Wealways thought of it as a patriotic and creative testament:  if you’re ina position to stand your ground, it means you must’ve arrived in the firstplace.” He continues, "We don’t have any emphasis on being a politicalband, but you can’t go through a day without being bombarded by the media andworld crisis.  It’s unavoidable.  It all started with ‘Don’t GetWeak’ which is basically says ‘This whole situation blows, so let’s gettogether and kick some ass -- raise a fist and fight for what’s yours.’  Iguess that was a bit of a departure for us and it led to a few more tracks, including the title track ‘Stand Your Ground’ which sends the message ‘makethis nation strong.’  It’s safe to say that we don’t have uniformpolitical beliefs in this band,” Petrusek laughs.  Bassist / VocalistRobert Berg adds, “Different band members are voting for different people.”
Produced, engineered and mixed by Jeremy Tappero, StandYour Ground is a locally grown Minnesota product:  you can hearDowntread’s home-turf swagger fueling the recording sessions at Pound SoundStudios in St. Paul, and Greg Reierson nicely wrangles the savage beast duringmastering sessions at Rare Form Mastering in Minneapolis.
One song on Stand Your Ground seems toepitomize the collaboration:  “I Told You” features a string arrangementby the band’s good friend Joel Kosche (solo artist and lead guitarist forCollective Soul), perfectly ensconced in an epic-scale sonic landscape.
Stand Your Ground shows Downtread’s soundgrowing and deepening since the 2010 debut album 144.  The new album also benefits from a different recording method.  “On ourlast album,” Petrusek explains, “we recorded the way most bands do.  Welaid down basic tracks, then layered on guitars, then vocals – working on thealbum in its entirety.  This is a really long process and it can tend to losemomentum.  On Stand Your Ground we completed one track ata time, from start to completion.  We’d get really pumped up, because wecould hear the final product of the first song before we even started work onthe second song.  Each song stayed fresher and the flavors change fromsong to song.  It’s a lot more inspiring to do it that way and we’re goingto keep doing it that way from now on.”  Guitarist Teddy Gordon echoesthese sentiments sharing, "The big difference between this album and 144 isthe cohesion.  On 144 we had all the basic pieces inplace – big heavy guitar riffs and monster drums – and we were simply trying toget it all out.  On Stand Your Ground the band haslearned how to make it all click together.  It’s both an ignition as wellas a refinement, and our vocabulary has grown.  The same lineup has beentogether for a few years, and we’ve learned how to speak a language togetherbetter over time.”
Downtread is Brett Petrusek (Vocals / Lead Guitar), RobertBerg (Bass / Vocals), Teddy Gordon (Guitar), Marc Paradise (Guitar), EricDomagall (Drums).  A complete itinerary will be announced shortly.

About Starring:

Northern Spy Records announces a full-length album from avant-rockexperimentalists Starring. Playful stalwarts of the BrooklynDIY scene, last year Starring holed up in Brooklyn’sSt. Cecilia’s Church with producer MattMehlan (frontman of Skeletons and collaborator with Congoronics vs Rockers) tocompose an album of six compositions they call ABCDEFG-HIJKLMNOP-QRSTUV-WXYZ.

Starring’s ABCDEFG-HIJKLMNOP-QRSTUV-WXYZ combinesminimalist musical patterns with dreamy poetry to create a new stylefront-woman Clara Hunter likes to call “sparkleprog.” It captures the frenetic energy of theband’s live show, but here it is overlain witha new palate of synthesizers, delay effects, drum processing, aux percussion, and vocals that create delicate, but sometimes radical juxtapositions betweenthe lyrical and the experimental. Though songs like “thebest” and “aphonia” channel the loud, raw, and repetitive “circuspunk” of Starring’searly releases, much of this record speaks with a broader sense of expressivedepth.

Over the course of the album’s six cuts, choruses soar at monstrous heights framed by mechanical and occult trances.Dead jazz turns up with fuzzy 8-bit solos, whistling synths pipe beneathghostly choral arrangements, viola lines in Turkish modes swoop into ornamentedcurls and loops, and singer Clara Hunter’sgirlish vocals whisper the record’s secretswith surreal, woozy melodies. Concretely, the album reflects an aesthetic thatrecalls the classic sounds of European prog rock (Magma, Faust, Neu!), theunhinged grit of 1970’s New York no wave artists likeSuicide, the earliest cuts from minimalists like Terry Riley and Philip Glass, and even a dose of post-rock’sstrung-out improvisations.

Brooklyn's Woodpecker to release new LP, "Thanks Anyway" July 24!

“...clever, wordy lyrics (Slim Shady is namechecked) and sophisticated hooksbetray a penchant for indie pop.”
— Time Out New YorkWhat started as something of a lark involving bluegrasscovers of classic punk and hip hop tunes has snowballed into theAmericana-infused present tense singularity of Woodpecker's Thanks Anyway. TheBrooklyn-based septet calls forth the spirit of their hometown through aleft-field indie-folk hue one wouldn’t generally associate with NYC. Veteransof film and music festivals such as CMJ, Rooftop Films, McCarren Park Pool andBluergrass Music Festival, Woodpecker claims a diverse membership, withprevious bands spanning from Joan of Arc to MuchasBluegracias, from Nihiti to The WhistlingWolves. Their combination of banjo ramble with cello fluidity loosensup the listener to a conversation-like narrative courtesy of filmmaker frontmanJosh Steinbauer, whose eviscerating witticisms stick it to lost lovers andelevator farters alike, all with knowing, tongue-in-cheek aplomb.
NEW MP3 (Cleared to post): Woodpecker - "Every Boy In NY"
Woodpecker’s 2008 debut F-hole washighlighted by the fractured realism of "So You're The Guy Who's Going ToMarry My Ex-Girlfriend."  The manifesto, which many wishthey had penned to old flames, is deliv- ered as a mature, matter-of-factstatement about a unique stage in a relationship which somehow manages to fitin a pedophile joke without sacrificing the song’s sincerity. The band’s senseof humor is a gentle blanket wrapped around the somber reflections of theiracoustic oeuvre — Woodpecker makes serious music without taking themselvesseriously.

Flash forward to 2012 with the anticipated sophomore effort ThanksAnyway, and we find Woodecker at the height of a newly-craftedsubgenre. The punk energy of Andrew Jackson Jihad collides with SufjansStevens-inspired alt-folk, ultimately culminating into a fully realizedtapestry all their own. With half the musicians doubling as filmmakers, themelodies often play like a soundtrack to Steinbauer’s chronicles. Intelligentdissections of affected drama (“Movie People") unfold alongside love songsdrenched in the blood curdling screams of zombie victims (“Married To TheMovies"). Like a collection of shorts filmed on location, their hometown breathes behind them in tracks like "Old Photos Of ConeyIsland In The Queens Museum V. Coney Island This Afternoon" and "IfYou See Something..."; the latter focusing on that definitive moment whenone must choose between approaching or ignoring an ex spotted in the subway.Clever one-liners make themselves known for an instant, prior to theirenvelopment in lush strings and pensive hooks. From the wistful melody of"Every Boy In NY" to the sonic bombast of Lynch/Badalamenti inspired"Black Lodge," Woodpecker has staked its claim throughthe warm melancholia of Thanks Anyway.Artist - Woodpecker

Self-titled Fourth Album out June 19th on Metal Blade Records

Today WHITECHAPEL has released the third and final video in a series of which was filmed during the recording process of their new self-titled release, which will be released June 19th on Metal Blade Records. This video focuses on the vocal tracking process.
The first video in the series provides an in depth look at the drum tracking process for the album.
Having spent several years lauded as one of the frontrunners in their genre, in 2012WHITECHAPEL stand as a defining force in contemporary heavy music. Building dramatically on the trademarked bludgeon of their first three releases, with Whitechapel the Tennessean sextet have inarguably delivered their most intense, dynamic, and downright hostile record to date. Drenched in atmospheric darkness, the record is also rife with gripping melodies that drag the listener in to the tumult, willing or otherwise, and across its ten tracks it is infused with an emotional depth that pointedly separates the band from the plethora of two-dimensional mosh-starters that have sprung up in their wake.
The album was engineered and mixed by Mark Lewis (Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver), who also handled production duties alongside the band. The album artwork was created by Aaron Marsh of Forefathers Group with art direction provided by WHITECHAPEL.

Whitechapel Tracklisting:1)      Make it Bleed2)      Hate Creation3)      (Cult)uralist4)      I, Dementia5)      Section 86)      Faces7)      Dead Silence8)      The Night Remains9)      Devoid10)  Possibilities of an Impossible Existence
Returning to their rightful place on the road, the band are enthused to take these new songs to their rabid fan base.  WHITECHAPEL will be a part of this summer's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival which starts June 30th. A complete list of all tour dates can be found below.
